In Octo\u00adber 2014, the corpo\u00adra\u00adti\u00adons Apple and Face\u00adbook announ\u00adced that they would pay for their employees to freeze their egg cells. The free\u00adzing of egg cells for non-medi\u00adcal reasons is called social egg free\u00adzing. I was inte\u00adrested in this announ\u00adce\u00adment because I can\u2019t imagine delay\u00ading the desire of having child\u00adren just to climb the career ladder. Around the same time, our class began a book design with the subject confron\u00adta\u00adtion. Social egg free\u00adzing is the result of the confron\u00adta\u00adtion between child\u00adren and career; between family and profes\u00adsion. This confron\u00adta\u00adtion is very violent because both things happen at the same stage in life. When it\u2019s time to make career and to climb the social ladder, a woman reaches her maxi\u00admum of ferti\u00adlity and has the best chance of giving birth to healthy child\u00adren.<\/p>\n

When it comes to social egg free\u00adzing, there is no longer a contest. The baby will be delayed and liter\u00adally put on ice. Howe\u00adver, many people forget that egg free\u00adzing doesn\u2019t guaran\u00adtee that you will have child\u00adren at a later age. There is a big chance of remai\u00adning child\u00adless. The coverage on this topic by the media is also inte\u00adres\u00adting. Getting child\u00adren and star\u00adting a family are very private subjects; subjects that shouldn\u2019t be discus\u00adsed with the employer or in public. The sensi\u00adtive deci\u00adsion to start a family is confron\u00adted with ratio\u00adna\u00adlity and econo\u00admic effi\u00adci\u00adency.<\/p>\n

I was there\u00adfore inte\u00adrested in addres\u00adsing this issue with the same ratio\u00adna\u00adlity and scien\u00adti\u00adfic approach. Working with the subject social egg free\u00adzing has shown me that you can not only look at free\u00adzing egg cells. There is so much more, inclu\u00adding test-tube ferti\u00adli\u00adsa\u00adtion and other medi\u00adcal possi\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adties. I tried to make my book down-to-earth and simply inform the reader about social egg free\u00adzing. They should make up their mind on their own. I am confron\u00adting the reader in the same objec\u00adtive way as the compa\u00adnies are confron\u00adting their employees. To present the diffe\u00adrent paths of life and the many possi\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adties within it, I have chosen the symbol of a map, like the maps of the metro and bus lines. The font I used is also used for the maps and time sche\u00addu\u00adles of the London Under\u00adground.<\/p>\n
